Spotting the Signs of a Spider Infestation
Knowing how to spot a spider infestation can help you to address this pest control issue before it gets completely out of control. Read on to find out how to recognise the signs of an infestation.
Spider egg sacs
Spiders build a structure called an egg sac in their web. In the egg sac, eggs are laid. The egg sacs can be easy to spot, with long strands of silk hanging from the web. If you find that the silk strands are cut off or have disappeared, you may have a spider infestation. If you spot an egg sac hanging below a web, it is best to remove it from your home before a multitude of spiders hatches from it. The easiest way of doing this is vacuuming the egg sac up and then emptying your vacuum cleaner.
Fewer flies and bugs
Spiders love to eat flies and bugs. The webs that spiders weave are perfectly designed to capture flying insects. Once captured, the spider will entomb the unfortunate bug or fly in silk so they can eat them later. If you are used to seeing a lot of flying bugs in your home and you suddenly realised that their numbers have declined, this could be a sign of a spider infestation.
Broken web strands
A spider infestation can result in broken webs, particularly in walls and ceilings. The web strands may look intact, but they have broken due to several spiders relentlessly trying to construct a web. Broken web strands are often around ceiling fans, electrical sockets, or in the corners of ceilings and walls.
Lots of small spiders
While every home can expect to host a few spiders, you should not be encountering spiders on a regular basis. If it feels like you see tiny spiders every time you enter a room or other part of your property, then this could be a sign that lots of baby spiders have hatched from an egg sac. It is important that you take steps to address the issue at this point. If you do not, you will probably find that these small spiders grow up to become larger spiders which eventually make webs and create their own egg sacs.
If you spot any of these signs, it is probably time to contact a local pest control agency for a spider extermination service. The pest control contractor can take action to kill the spiders in your home and to remove any nests and eggs.
