Some pests are annoying or even scary, like spiders and ants. These types of pests don't always require urgent pest control treatment unless there is a serious infestation. But some pests warrant immediate pest control. If you notice that you have a subterranean termite, German cockroach, or Norway rat infestation in your home, consider calling pest control immediately.

German cockroaches, subterranean termites, and Norway rats are a serious concern for homeowners across Australia.

1. German cockroaches

German cockroaches are a threat to homes throughout the world. These pests are the most invasive cockroach species in Australia, and once they infest a residential building, removing them is almost impossible without professional pest control.

Fast egg production: One German cockroach can produce 200 eggs in her lifetime of around 200 days. This means that if you have several female cockroaches in your home, you could have a very serious infestation in just a few months.

Unfussy eaters: German cockroaches will eat almost anything, including cooking oil, rotting food and grease on a wall. Depriving them of food then is very difficult.

Difficult to locate: German cockroaches are small and prefer to live in dark locations, especially locations that are a tight squeeze.

Spread diseases: Because German cockroaches walk through rubbish and other nasty elements then walk on your utensils and leftover food, they can make you ill with diseases like Salmonella.

2. Subterranean termites

Subterranean termites are the kind of termite that attacks from below ground. These termites can be extremely destructive for several reasons.

Spread quickly: Subterranean termites never sleep. In fact, they never stop foraging for more food sources, even after they already have several sources of food. This means that subterranean termites can spread throughout your property very quickly unless stopped.

Property damage: Subterranean termites can quietly munch their way through the wooden structure of your home, causing costly damage in the process.

Difficult to spot: Because they attack from below, often coming up through the foundation, subterranean termites are difficult to find and track. They could be anywhere close by but you might never know because they rarely show themselves.

3. Norway rats

Norway rats are one of the biggest and most invasive rat species. These rats require urgent pest control treatment.

Spread disease: Norway rats can spread an array of nasty diseases to humans, such as Hantavirus, tularemia and babesiosis.

Property damage: Rats need to chew constantly to ensure that their teeth don't grow too long. Rat teeth never stop growing. This means that a family of rats will gnaw at the inside of your home, including on electrical wiring, until you remove them.

Aggressive behaviour: If you corner a Norway rat, they can become aggressive and bite or claw you. If Norway rats are breeding in your walls or attic then, you need to remove them before they can breed out of control.
